When you play classic games, do you find the sprites too... Flat? Wishing for a little more depth? Well, I'm afraid I can't do anything to your games, but at least now you can have your very own, 3D, tangible Mario sprite. All you need is a printer, paper, scissors, glue and a little experience.
Started off as some orthographic sketches to help me visualise what I thought Mario would look like in 3D, based off his sprites from the NES game Super Mario Bros. Modelled and textured in Blender, and then imported into Pepakura Designer to be unfolded as a net. I the testbuilt it and finalised the template.
The result of my build is shown! The head, feet and body are all separate, so it's pose able to a certain extent. The background is a large sheet of blue paper and some scaled up, printed out sprites.
The bottom left shows the other included versions. As well as classic Mario there's classic Luigi, Fire Mario and Donkey Kong Mario. Included in the download are .pdos and .pdfs for each version of the template and .jpg instructions.
Before building, make sure you have made a few simpler papercrafts first, otherwise you might find it difficult.Or you might be a natural, how the hell should I know?
NO! That's blasphemy
Sonic: yeah! I'd love dat
